PRFC Signs Athletic Defender Rudy Dawson
May 10, 2016

San Juan, PR, May 10, 2016– Puerto Rico Football Club proudly announced today that Rudy Dawson,  a highly athletic defender who has represented Costa Rica at the U17, U20 & U23 Olympic level will join the Puerto Rico Football Club for their inaugural season.

Dawson was originally signed as an academy player by Alajuelense in 2008, and as a 19 year old played 25 senior team games for the dominant Primera League team, before being transferred to FC Uruguay in 2010. He took on hero status that year as he scored the goal in the Championship playoff final that promoted the club to the Primera Division after being in the second tier for some 30 years.  He went on to be a key starting player for FC Uruguay in subsequent years.

He has played at the U19 World Cup for the Ticos and also the 2012 Olympic qualifiers. He caught the eye of Celtic and Dunfermline in Europe and was asked to trial there in 2011.  At 28 years old, Rudy is still to hit his peak, and will add experience, pace and aggression to the PRFC back line.

“Neil and Adrian have had their sights set on Rudy for a long time, going back to last summer, and I am happy that we are able to add him to our club.  We look at him as a key piece to the puzzle for our team, and someone that we expect to come in and help set a tone for us defensively with his experience and also his physical attributes.  We look forward to welcoming him to the Island and to PRFC”, said Tom Payne, President of Puerto Rico FC.

The 2016 season begins on July 2, 2016 at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium.  PRFC season tickets are on sale to the public now.  Visit for more information on available seats and all the great season ticket holder benefits.
